The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) granted $3 Million to the Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBSI) to assist with the Agricultural sector. 

The main purpose of the grant to DBSI is to assist the MAL in evaluating agriculture project proposals with their applications and be assisted along the following lines:

  1. To provide loan to the farmers, processors and exporters who are already in business and wish to expand or consolidate existing agriculture activities to improve their farm production, processing and export capabilities.
  2. To provide interest payment support to existing processors who are provided loans to expand operations during the set up period, not to exceed one year.
  3. To provide loan guarantees to support existing farmers, processors and exporters who are provided loans who wish to upgrade or expand existing farm produce and agriculture products.

Loan Features

Eligibility Solomon Islands registered farmers, processors and exporters who wish to expand existing farm produce and agriculture products.
Purpose for loan
  1. To support the farmers, processors and exporters with funding to help boost or increase their productions
  2. AGSF to cover the following purposes:
    1. For working capital to improve their farm production, processing and export capabilities;
    2. To assist with transport component
Security
  1. Charge over  farmer's, processor's or exporter's assets
  2. Guarantee under SME guarantee scheme
Interest Rate 8%
Term Maximum of 5 years
Establishment Fee 1.5% of the loan amount or minimum of $750
Minimum Loan $50,000
Maximum Loan $300,000
