Strengthening the Tourism Industry in Solomon Islands
The Tourism Support Facility (TSF) offers a $2 million fund dedicated to bolstering the tourism industry in Solomon Islands. This initiative provides essential support for institutional strengthening and capacity building among tourism operators and tour guide operators. The Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBSI) evaluates tourism project proposals along with client applications and provides assistance through the following means:
Key Support Offered:
- Loan Provision: Financial assistance for tourism operators looking to upgrade or expand their existing tourism products in accordance with the Bank’s lending policy.
- Interest Payment Support: We provide interest payment assistance for existing tourism operators who receive loans aimed at upgrading or expanding their offerings.
- Loan Guarantees: Loan guarantees are available for tourism operators seeking to enhance their facilities and services in line with the Bank’s lending policy.
Eligibility Criteria:
Eligible applicants include:
- Registered tourism operators and tour guide operators in Solomon Islands who possess existing facilities needing support during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Purpose of Loan:
The funding aims to:
- Support tourism operators and tour guide operators in sustaining the economy during these difficult times.
- Improve and upgrade existing facilities to meet minimum standards.
- Facilitate funding for renewable energy initiatives.
- Assist with transportation needs related to tourism.
Security & Fees:
- Security: Loans are secured by a charge over the tourism operator’s assets. Additionally, guarantees are provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) under the grant scheme.
- Interest Rate: 8%
- Maximum Loan Term: 5 years
- Establishment Fee:5% of the loan amount, with a minimum fee of $750.
Loan Amounts:
- Minimum Loan Amount: $50,000.00
- Maximum Loan Amount: $300,000.00
